To all my fellow Essex food lovers and party go-ers, this one is for you.
If you’ve been living under a rock, you won’t know that Revolution has opened it’s doors in Southend-on-Sea. Revolution, aka Vodka Revolution, aka Vodka Revs, aka Revs is one of my favourite bar chains ever so I’m glad I now don’t have to venture too far. They already have plenty of other outlets across the country, serving food, drinks, cocktails and what makes them so unique is their very own hand crafted vodka. Listen here. Their own vodka flavours include delights such as Salted Caramel Popcorn, Melted IceCream, Peanut butter & Jelly, Bubblegum, Rocky Road and Rhubarb and Custard to name just a few of the 30 options. Not only to they have a huge variety of vodka, Revolution also offers some of the funkiest cocktails I have ever seen and the most delicious menu – can I get a hallelujah for the Halloumi Fries.
I was invited to the press evening alongside two of my best friends and fellow blogger favourite, Hannah. We started our evening at Revolution Southend with a welcome cocktail. We could chose between a classic cosmopolitan served in a martini glass or a Boston Hurricane, but as the designated driver of the evening, I opted for a Raspberry Lemon Lovin’ which was just as delicious. The staff behind the bar were friendly and welcoming. After sipping on our drinks, we were taken for a tour around the new establishment by manager, Darren, who just so happens to be family, so obviously I’ll be giving him a glowing review, but he definitely earns it! As you enter the venue, downstairs has a large bar and plenty of seating for dining with tables and large booths suitable for birthday bashes or any celebration you’d like. In the evenings, Revolution turns into a ‘late night bar with DJ’ kind of vibe which is my kind of place. Not quite a club, but has enough atmosphere for a jolly good knees up.
Upstairs is my favourite area, The Terrace. The Terrace has a bar and comfortable seating with a retractable roof, perfect for those sunny days and warm evenings. We had a go at making our very own cocktails which was great fun. The cocktails we made were Blue Movie, Sweet Dreams and Blackberry Bliss which can I just point out came in a plastic bag! The barman, who’s name I unfortunately cannot remember, was very helpful and knowledgeable about all of the ingredients and what makes the cocktails taste great. Had I been drinking, I would have opted for the Pushing Up Daisies which is topped with candyfloss floss!
After making cocktails, we headed back downstairs to our own table to tuck into a delicious meal. Revolution offer all sorts of food, from healthy options, pasta, pizza, all the meat, tapas, whatever you fancy and like. Our server was incredibly friendly and chatty and was on hand to offer her opinion and advice on whats what and the best dishes. We had an terribly difficult time chosing what to eat because everything sounded so amazing but in the end I opted for the Smokin’ Bacon Burger and Fries. This was the most delicious burger I have honestly ever eaten and it even contained Wotsits… I was unsure when I ordered but I am so glad I did. The portions are very generous and had I not had been such a pig and ordered Halloumi Fries (also incredibly delicious) then perhaps I would have had room for dessert. When I go back, I will definitely be trying to Salted Caramel Chocolate Fondue or Nutella Fluffwich. Uh, I need that.
I will definitely be heading back to Revolution Southend as soon as I possibly can.
Thank you to Revolution Southend for inviting me along to their press night. The food and cocktails were gifted to us, however all thoughts and opinions are my own.
